Youser 01: Guild Wars 2 Transmuation Stones and dye coloring system
Youser is a weekly show, every Saturday, covering use-generated content in MMOs, by your host Jeremy Stratton. In stunning 1080p HD.
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Youser, featuring user-generated content from different MMOs. I do have Dungeoneered that comes out every Friday and highlights player-made dungeons and houses in Everquest II, and Telon Times, which comes out every Sunday covering anything and everything about the classic MMORPG Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. If you like user-generated content, you'll love Dungeoneered. Telon Times isn't specifically about user-generated content, but Vanguard is really conducive to player-made events and does feature a lot of player-made content, like open-world housing and boats.
To kick off this show, I wanted to feature Guild Wars 2's robust armor customizing and coloring systems. I found both systems to be very similar to Runes of Magic, but I'm going to do more in-depth comparisons in next week's show, when I feature RoM's customizing systems.
There's also a mighty tale of love, hate, wonder and frustration associated with creating this video, which you can read about, while you watch.
This video. This video gave me so much frustration that it turned into a solo-game of determination out of principle, or spite. When all was said and done, I had to record the original video three times, went through over seven encoding attempts and tried to upload it three times. During all of this, I discovered some major flaws in my facts during presentation. It might have been best to scrap the whole thing and start over again, but the beta weekend was over. I could have scrapped the entire project and waited until another beta weekend or until the game was officially launched, but I had become on a mission.
I decided to upload and present it, flaws included. Naturally, I’ve included corrections in the YouTube description, YouTube comments and here, on this post.
I hope you enjoy it, in all its wrong-a-tude.
Fact-corrections:
You can transmute weapons, with the same restrictions that apply to armor.
