Youser 04: Aardwolf MUD
Youser is a weekly show, every Saturday, covering use-generated content in MMOs, by your host Jeremy Stratton. In stunning 1080p HD.
Ever Since Beau Hindman started talking about MUDs, I've found myself getting slowly sucked into their textual goodness.
Surprising to me is that MUD communities seem to be fairly cut off or separated from MMO gaming, in general. I first noticed this through the different terminology to similar gameplay. Some MUD players don't even refer to MMOs as MMOs.
Aardwolf is one of the more public and popular MUDs right now. I had a friend tell me he thought it was trying to be like World of Warcraft, and I have to agree. For a text-based game, Aardwolf seems like the WoW of the MUDs. Comparatively easy to get into, very straight-forward, in-depth helpfiles and systems that appeal to a wide playerbase.
Before you watch the video, I wanted to add: I think MUDS have a chance to make a small resurgence in popularity, if the MUD communities were willing to be a little more public and organize.
It is a bit long, for staring at a textual interface, but hopefully packed with enough info to enjoy listening to it.
You can also follow along my 5 Minute Adventures where I play Aardwolf and will be adding other games as well.
